The ultimate skincare guide every woman deserves

Sure, our customers had an epiphany about self care when they joined our facebook community, but even after understanding its relativity in today’s dynamic, most of them were lost.

Women devote a greater time of their life being a giver, showing up for everyone and everywhere, at home and in offices, for her children, husband and colleagues. But what about themselves?

Being lost in this loop, they forget to look after themselves and their skin. But we are here to change that.

Here, we have curated the ultimate skin care guide that will help your skin glow

        For Skin

        Understand your skin type

The most crucial step in keeping your skin healthy is actually knowing it. Notice which doshas are prominent on your skin and how they are triggered by changes in weather. Understand the characteristics of different doshas and know which one you have.

Vata Skin Type - This type of skin is thin, has fine pores and is usually cool to touch. You will experience extreme dryness in certain weather. In fact, Vata Skin type is also prone to signs of ageing and stress

Pitta skin type - Pitta skin is fair in colour, is usually warm to touch and is sensitive. This type of skin is thicker, can break out and is prone to rashes

Kapha Skin Type - While people with Kapha skin type don’t have to worry about early aging, their thick skin is excessively oily. The pores are enlarged which attract dirt and cause pimples.

        Treat your Doshas

Now you must keep in mind that understanding your doshas and treating it is a lifestyle change and may take a really long time. However, here are some quick tips to help you on the basis of your dosha.

Vata Skin Type - Vata skin type needs excessive hydration and moisturisation. So, we recommend you to invest in good facial oils that will help in locking in the moisture. Drink an adequate amount of water to hydrate as well.

You can try Ayurvedic Origin’s Facial Oil Duo - Kumkuma (which has the goodness of saffron majishtha and 25 other exotic herbs, out of which __ are natural moisturisers) and Haridra (which has the healing properties of turmeric and other natural herbs) Oil. Check it out here!

Pitta Skin Type - Protect your skin from excessive sun exposures. Use natural cleansers and do not forget to apply sun block before stepping out.

Kapha Skin Type - If you have a Kapha skin type, you should cleanse your skin thoroughly twice a day (Use a natural cleanser). Additionally, try to exfoliate your skin twice a week.

        Practice Abhyanga

Abhyanga is an ayurvedic massage done with warm oil. While tension and stress relief is often associated with massages, the practice is more than that.

Massaging your body with oil can deeply nourish your skin and give it a radiant look. Even a basic two-minutes massage before sleeping at night can do wonders to your skin. You can use warm coconut oil, olive oil or any naturally compressed oil for your body.

For your face, as we discussed before, it is really crucial to invest in a good facial oil as these oils seep deep into your skin and stay there. We’d suggest not using synthetic based oils filled with artificial fragrances.

Read here about the 10 facial marma points and how to massage them in the right manner.

Bathe your Skin with Milk -

With its fats and lactic acid content, milk is a great way to moisturize and soften your skin. When your skin is inflamed or irritated, a milk bath can help you immensely.

For a daily routine, you can dip a cotton ball in milk and apply it all over your neck and face to remove dirt and clean your pores. You can use coconut milk as well.

Eat enough Raw Vegetables and Fruits -

To fight the perils of radicals, smoking, pollution and sunlight that are the greatest cause of wrinkles and age spots, you must include antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables in your diet. You should have at least 5 portions of food that is rich in antioxidants.

Antioxidants such as Beta Carotene are found in sweet potatoes, pumpkin and carrots, while Lutein is found in kale, papaya, and spinach. These antioxidants are important to promote skin cell development and keep it extremely healthy.

        Get your Vitamins

Vitamin C and Vitamin E are known for their amazing benefits.

Vitamin C has a plethora of benefits which we have listed down below!

        1. Rich in Antioxidants

        3. Accelerates healing of blemishes.

        Benefits of Vitamin E:

While there are easy supplements available for the above two vitamins, we want you to intake them in their raw forms. Strawberries, blueberries, oranges, papaya, guava, avocado, beetroot, almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower and corn oils are some of the sources of Vitamin E and C.

        Eat Plenty of Zinc

Include foods that are rich in zinc such as whole grains, nuts and seeds! This magic mineral will make your skin soft and supple.

You might notice your skin looking pale, dry and drained. These signs show that your skin is dehydrated! No matter what fluids you intake, water forms the most important source of hydration for your skin to be healthy and thriving.

Try to consume at least 6-8 glasses of water daily. You can mix things up and go for herbal teas, detox water and so on. If you really want #wokeuplikethis skin, you need to sleep well. That’s the truth.

Did you know? A 2017 study found that two days of sleep restriction negatively affected participant’s perceived attractiveness, health, sleepiness, and trustworthiness.

Sleep can help your skin and your well being in myriad ways. During the night, the skin repairs and rejuvenates itself after fighting against the emotional and physical factors such as UV radiation.

The blood flow in skin increases and skin rebuilds its collagen, thereby improving its texture, improving fine lines and more. So, sleep at least 6-7 hours to get a healthy looking skin.

It is also important to take care of your skin and provide it with essential nutrients to repair itself at night.

What is the Self Care Revolution? Be a part!

What is the Self Care Revolution? Be a part!

You can literally hear the picture say “Put your oxygen mask first before you help the person next to you.”

Some of you might think that it is so selfish of the mother to put on the mask first. But, if you give it a thought, the mask is symbolic of self-care

We feel empathetic towards so many people - our children, husband, wife, friends and others, but if we don’t love ourselves first, how will we have the capacity to love others?

Putting the mask first is not selfish, it is self-care! Even in dictionary terms, self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.

Self-care is underrated but is crucial for one's holistic well-being! So, with this piece we want you to discover it as a revolution and inculcate in your life everyday.

        Why is Self Care Revolutionary?

Let us first understand what revolution is.

Revolution is a gradual shift in power from one institution to another. French, American and more, these revolutions changed the shape of the world.

The Self Care Revolution is meant to change us, from within and how we survive.

All our lives we let others influence our perceptions of ourselves more than ourselves. Self-care helps us get back that power. Here, self-care is a shift too, a shift in power from the other institutions to ourselves, which makes it so revolutionary.

The Self Care Revolution is not a new concept, it’s been around us for 1000s of years because our ancestors simply understood the need for it!

Since inception, individuals have been practicing the rituals of self care! If we observe Ayurveda, the oldest healing science, it falls under the same umbrella. It also propounds on doing things that are essential for one’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

        You’ve got it all wrong..

Truth be told, it's hard. Especially when women reach that age in her life and she is burdened with multiple roles of a mother, wife, daughter, entrepreneur, employee and so many more, things tend to get rocky sometimes.

But we want you to understand that you don't need to set fires on yourself to keep others warm.

You’ve got it all wrong! They say that fill your cup so that you can pour it into others.

But we saw this beautiful reel on Instagram by @carlyesperia that will help us change your narrative today. She preaches, fill your own cup so much that it automatically overflows to others

That is what self-care is. Loving yourself and being there for yourself so much that you eventually radiate that love to others.

Why should you practice self care?

“Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.” — Raphailia Michael, Counselling Psychologist

Now cutting to the chase, I will mention three most powerful reasons that will help you convince why self care is crucial!

        1. It boosts your productivity - When you’re not the burning candle at both ends, you become productive everywhere.

        1. It provides you with self-esteem - When you prioritise yourself over someone else you start identifying your intrinsic value

        1. It keeps your emotions in check - When you’re relaxed from within, you don’t easily get overwhelmed under pressure.

First Step Towards Self Care - Eliminating the shame and guilt

No matter the “whys” and how crucial self-care is, it always ends up being the last element in our to-do list and even worse, we sometimes let it go.

Even if we miraculously say “no” to them and yes to “ourselves”, we end up feeling extremely guilty about it.

        But why?

        • This might be because we look at it as a “feel good”, “guilty pleasure” or a “sinfully indulgent” activity and think that we are indulging, which is a selfish act

        • Some of us view it as a zero-sum game. It means doing something at the cost of something else.

But you need to change the definition. You do self care because it is essential for your existence

It is about your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. It isn't that much about “doing” as it is about “BUILDING A MINDSET.”

Let’s get relevant and explain to you with an example of the materialistic things we love. You know how a car needs regular maintenance to run smoothly long term? We are just like the car and we need regular maintenance to remain fueled up!

Now, ladies, let’s look at some GUILT-FREE ways of practicing self care!

        1. Assess what you need -  Identify your needs in terms of physical, mental or spiritual self care arena. For example, you might be doing well with your workouts, but be always overwhelmed. Watch a meditation video or practice simple breathing.

        1. Observe what works for you - Like fashion, food, skincare, identify your self care style. For you it can be hitting the gym, for others it can be cooking healthy recipes. Identify and incorporate these activities.

        1. Formulate Simple and Flexible Plans - Start by including one self-care activity in your daily schedule and take it from there, lets say, doing a simple 15 minutes yoga. Audit your routine from time to time and keep making changes.

        1. Create a Support System - Stick to people, apps and calendars that, you know, will help you weave self-care into your everyday lifestyle.

To wrap it up, self care isn’t supposed to be hard. It isn’t indulging, it is essential. Apply everything that we just talked about in your everyday life and you will see a really positive impact in your life.

Skincare - 7 reasons why everyone should be doing it

Why does Ayurveda recommend the use of Facial Oils?

Why does Ayurveda recommend the use of Facial Oils?

When it comes to effective skin-care solutions, facial oils have made quite the roar among millennials and beauty influencers. Why so? Facial oils are specially tailored to complement your skin’s natural oils, lock in moisture, and keep your skin hydrated. But we are here to tell why it isn’t just about that.

Age-old Connection of Ayurveda with Facial Oils

        First, ask yourself.

“Do I wanna put something on my face that is chemically refined, altered, and made with artificial lab-made ingredients?”

“Do I want something that is packed with organic and nutritious elements right from nature’s bowl?”

Quite obvious what you want, right? Well, Ayurvedic oils are just about that, an integration of age-old science and a plethora of nature’s indigenous and most valuable components blended together.

Oils or “sneha”, including facial oils, form one of the most important aspects of Ayurveda for its therapeutic benefits. Ayurveda believes that both the naturally extracted herbs and the right application work magic, making facial oils the ultimate nourisher of the face.

As ayurvedic oils have intense absorbing properties, the herbs seep into the tissues and rejuvenate the skin. The organic ingredients of the oil act as an emollient, making the skin soft and supple.

Put simply, concentrated in a small bottle, ayurvedic oils are a meticulous blend of nature’s handpicked, powerful and effective constituents that will heal your skin from within and provide ultimate sustenance and radiance to the skin.

        We are not through yet!

Now, we’d like you to delve in a deeper understanding of how the exquisite components in the oil are blended to give us the best possible results.

        Benefits of Ayurvedic Facial Oils

Protection - Facial oils act as an additional barrier to your skin’s natural barrier. They lock the moisture in and keep the toxins out of your skin, thereby protecting it from environmental pollution, dust and other harmful things.

Rejuvenating - When we talk about aging, dry or oily skin essentially forms a part of it. Using facial oils regularly can help in balancing the natural oils that your face secrets and rejuvenate your skin. With the right oil applied to your face, your skin glows more than ever.

Balancing - It is an age-old myth that people with oily skin should avoid using all kinds of facial oils. Is it true? No! Using facial oils can trick the skin. When you apply facial oil, skin assumes that it has already produced enough oils and produces less.

Calming - Ayurvedic facial oils soothe your inflamed and irritated skin. Correct facial oil and the right massage technique helps in blood circulation, skin tightening and skin cell activation. Facial massage helps in boosting mental well-being too.

Improving Skin Tone - The pure and unrefined elements in Ayurvedic facial oils improve dull or uneven skin tone. It speeds up the regeneration process and gives a natural glow to your skin.

There’s still more that you need to know..

For the Ayurvedic oils to work most effectively on your skin, you need a complete regime that works round the clock, like our Kumkuma-Haridra Day Night Duo. This duo set includes both day and night oils.
