        Understand your skin type 

        The most crucial step in keeping your skin healthy is actually knowing it. Notice which doshas are prominent on your skin and how they are triggered by changes in weather. Understand the characteristics of different doshas and know which one you have. 


        Vata Skin Type - This type of skin is thin, has fine pores and is usually cool to touch. You will experience extreme dryness in certain weather. In fact, Vata Skin type is also prone to signs of ageing and stress


        Pitta skin type - Pitta skin is fair in colour, is usually warm to touch and is sensitive. This type of skin is thicker, can break out and is prone to rashes


        Kapha Skin Type - While people with Kapha skin type don’t have to worry about early aging, their thick skin is excessively oily. The pores are enlarged which attract dirt and cause pimples.

        Treat your Doshas 

        Now you must keep in mind that understanding your doshas and treating it is a lifestyle change and may take a really long time. However, here are some quick tips to help you on the basis of your dosha.


        Vata Skin Type - Vata skin type needs excessive hydration and moisturisation. So, we recommend you to invest in good facial oils that will help in locking in the moisture. Drink an adequate amount of water to hydrate as well.

        Practice Abhyanga 


        Abhyanga is an ayurvedic massage done with warm oil. While tension and stress relief is often associated with massages, the practice is more than that. 


        Massaging your body with oil can deeply nourish your skin and give it a radiant look. Even a basic two-minutes massage before sleeping at night can do wonders to your skin. You can use warm coconut oil, olive oil or any naturally compressed oil for your body.


        For your face, as we discussed before, it is really crucial to invest in a good facial oil as these oils seep deep into your skin and stay there. We’d suggest not using synthetic based oils filled with artificial fragrances.

        Bathe your Skin with Milk - 

        With its fats and lactic acid content, milk is a great way to moisturize and soften your skin. When your skin is inflamed or irritated, a milk bath can help you immensely.


        For a daily routine, you can dip a cotton ball in milk and apply it all over your neck and face to remove dirt and clean your pores. You can use coconut milk as well. 

        Diet

        Eat enough Raw Vegetables and Fruits - 

        To fight the perils of radicals, smoking, pollution and sunlight that are the greatest cause of wrinkles and age spots, you must include antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables in your diet. You should have at least 5 portions of food that is rich in antioxidants. 


        Antioxidants such as Beta Carotene are found in sweet potatoes, pumpkin and carrots, while Lutein is found in kale, papaya, and spinach. These antioxidants are important to promote skin cell development and keep it extremely healthy.

        Get your Vitamins 

        Vitamin C and Vitamin E are known for their amazing benefits. 


        Vitamin C has a plethora of benefits which we have listed down below!

        Stay Hydrated

        You might notice your skin looking pale, dry and drained. These signs show that your skin is dehydrated! No matter what fluids you intake, water forms the most important source of hydration for your skin to be healthy and thriving. 


        Try to consume at least 6-8 glasses of water daily. You can mix things up and go for herbal teas, detox water and so on. Add more fruits and vegetables in your diet that have high water content to keep up with the overall water intake and also provide you with the benefit of minerals that they contain.

        Sleep

        Did you know? A 2017 study found that two days of sleep restriction negatively affected participant’s perceived attractiveness, health, sleepiness, and trustworthiness.


        Sleep can help your skin and your well being in myriad ways. During the night, the skin repairs and rejuvenates itself after fighting against the emotional and physical factors such as UV radiation. 


        The blood flow in skin increases and skin rebuilds its collagen, thereby improving its texture, improving fine lines and more. So, sleep at least 6-7 hours to get a healthy looking skin.

        First Step Towards Self Care - Eliminating the shame and guilt

        No matter the “whys” and how crucial self-care is, it always ends up being the last element in our to-do list and even worse, we sometimes let it go.

        1. Observe what works for you - Like fashion, food, skincare, identify your self care style. For you it can be hitting the gym, for others it can be cooking healthy recipes. Identify and incorporate these activities. 

        1. Formulate Simple and Flexible Plans - Start by including one self-care activity in your daily schedule and take it from there, lets say, doing a simple 15 minutes yoga. Audit your routine from time to time and keep making changes. 

        1. Create a Support System - Stick to people, apps and calendars that, you know, will help you weave self-care into your everyday lifestyle.
